I agree, idea generation is important, you've gotta have a lot of ideas to have a good idea and the first one usually isn't it.
However AI is great at generating lots of ideas very quickly, the fact that they look more 'finished' is just a bonus.
I recently created a new personal branding concept for the header of my design portfolio www.rachaelpage.com, and AI was great for generating ideas that I could analyse and pick out the part that I liked (see image). I then used photoshop to montage up the idea.
The finished header will be animated with UX icons on the left, animated 'swooshes' and motion blur background and creative UI elements on the right.
I had to do a lot of work before and after this point on the personal brand approach, but AI is good for finding gaps and generating lots of "bad' ideas form which good ideas can come.
