A recent visit to the Powerhouse Museum’s George Nelson exhibition emphasised that the ability to create well-designed and attractive interiors is not limited to those who are experienced. Nelson, the famous American industrial designer, is remembered for designing most of the 20th Centuries iconic modernist furniture. He states how design is not just for the trained and innately gifted, but can be practiced by all.

The Artfuly Launch last Wednesday was crammed with art-lovers peering over shoulders to get a glimpse of the artworks on show. Our DJ spun relaxed lounge and caricatures flowed from Chris Kelly’s pencils as he moved around the room capturing guests with Artful ease. The artwork on show represents just a small section of the affordable, original art which is available on Artfuly.com, and 11 artists from 4 states exhibited 31 works.

The exhibition contains 130 beautiful lace works by 134 artists from 20 countries. The exhibition is not what you may expect. The works challenge and broaden traditional ideas of lace as the curators have extended the definition to “any openwork structure in which the pattern of spaces is as important as the solid areas.”

Performance art was an integral part of the expansion of artist communication with audiences around the 1960’s and 70’s and continuing on till today. Artists that paved the way in performance were Yoko Ono, Joseph Beuys, Yayoi Kusama & Caroline Schneemann. The queen of Performance art, Marina Abramovic, was featured in the 13 Rooms exhibition recently in Sydney.
